3 is the Magic Number for Seaford
By Joe Braico
Hempstead, NY
- It was a night of threes for the Seaford Vikings.
Seaford defeated the number 3 seed Locust Valley
33-0. This was the third straight Nassau County
title for the Vikings. It was also the third
straight undefeated season in Nassau County for the
Vikings. But maybe the most important three for
Seaford last night was 3rd down conversions.
The Vikings were 12/17 on 3rd down
conversions on the night. That’s an astonishing 70%.
The Vikings 3rd conversions help wear down a
determined Locust Valley defense on the night.
With the score was tied 0-0 late in the 2nd
quarter Coach Perpall, known for his running attack,
switched to the air. Quarterback Rob Anderson hit
standout wide receiver Mike Gallo on two big pass
plays; none bigger than 34 yard bomb down the
sideline for the game’s first score.
Anderson on
the night was 7/18 passing for 141 yards and 1
touchdown, while Gallo hauled in 4 receptions for
114 yards and 1 touchdown.
The Vikings scored again just before halftime on a 1
yard Justin Buckley run. The drive was typical
Seaford, 77 yards 12 plays.
The score at halftime was now 14-0.
The second half was much of the same as Buckley and
the Seaford line wore down the Falcons. The Vikings
would add 3 more scores in the 2nd making
the final score 33-0. Buckley was simply tremendous
rushing for 237 yards and scoring 3 touchdowns on 40
carries.
When asked after the game about his performance,
Buckley gave all of the credit to his line. “It’s
all about the offensive line. They were getting
great push…my fullback Tony Gillio was killing
people out there tonight. It was awesome.”
“We worked so hard in practice this week, hitting
the sled. It’s unbelievable how awesome our O-line
worked this week,” said junior offensive lineman
Greg Koldinsky.
The question now for the Vikings can they take the
next step and win the Long Island county
Championship. For the last three years they have
dominated Nassau county football going an incredible
32-0, but have lost to Babylon and Amityville in the
LIC. This year they will face Amityville to try and
exact some revenge from their lost two year ago.
Head Coach Rob Perpall doesn’t look at like that
though. “Anybody that goes to the Long Island
Championship is a winner. Both the teams are
winners.” Although I'm sure he would love to hold
the trophy after the game.
